Released in France Spartacus (Spartaco), Franco-Italian film by Riccardo Freda. Louison Bobet's first victory in the Tour de France. First popular protests over the burden of indirect taxes, which disadvantages small entrepreneurs, artisans and traders. In Saint-Céré, a collective tax audit is violently contested by a team of small traders and artisans led by papermaker Pierre Poujade. The protest, initially local, soon spread to the entire Lot department and then, during 1954, to all of rural France in the south of the Loire.
