Occupation of the town hall of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, in Gard, by sons of harkis protesting against their social situation; it was followed by violence committed in Narbonne from June 20 and clashes between the police by around a hundred young harkis from the Cité des Oliviers in Narbonne which culminated in the night of June 23 to 24. In June-July the children of harkis organize a protest movement in the south of France. signing of the Sangatte protocol between France and the United Kingdom, relating to border controls and the police, to judicial cooperation in criminal matters , civil security and mutual assistance, concerning the cross-Channel fixed link. France adheres to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty of 1968.
